Welcome to my website. Please feel free to browse at your will, using the menu on your left. The main page below is home to my (long neglected) weblog for those of you that are bored enough to take an interest in what's going on in my life :-).
I'm currently a Principal Scientist at Adobe, working on the architecture for asset management and collaboration in Creative Cloud. Prior to this, I was the lead developer for Creative Cloud Libraries - a revolutionary new way of sharing creative content between different applications, devices, and people. I previously helped to develop Adobe Scout, which was a visual profiler for Flash and AIR applications. Prior to this, I was a researcher in the Language Based Technology group at the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen. I was part of the MT-LAB project, which is a collaboration between DTU, Aalborg University, and ITU, investigating formal verification techniques for advanced software systems. My particular research was concerned with probabilistic and stochastic analysis of distributed systems. I did my PhD in the Laboratory for Foundations of Computer Science, University of Edinburgh, supervised by Professor Jane Hillston. Previously, I studied at Robinson College, Cambridge. I originate from Bridlington, a little sea-side town on the Yorkshire coast. In the summer of 2005, I was a Senior Technical Associate at Fraser Research, in Princeton, New Jersey. Non-academically, I've been studying Japanese since January 2006, and I have been playing the fascinating game of Go since September 2006. I was previously the president of the Edinburgh University Go Club, and was a member of the Japan-UK 150 sub-committee for Scotland. My current grade is around 3kyu. Other than that, there's not much else to say. Feel free to enjoy the site! 楽しんでください!

"Warum bin ich so frhlich?," sagte die Ente
And speaking of ducking, I seem to have avoided the effort of writing any updates in the recent past. Suffice it to say, that I had a great time in California, and am now once again stuck with the typical Cambridge/English weather of rain, rain, wind and more rain. I miss the sunshine state...
Of course, there were a couple of 'incidents', amongst the fun of San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco, such as a text-book super-flippy bike stunt (yes, I know it's dangerous to brake too hard whilst travelling at high velocities downhill), which cost me two sprained wrists; double ouch! Not forgetting the return flight being cancelled, resulting in me being stranded in Philadelphia airport for 24 hours, under the not-so-caring care of a bankrupt airline. Needless to say, I won't be flying again with *cough* US Airways *cough* anytime soon. I eventually arrived back in England (after taking a rather Irish route back), though it took them another four days to get my bag back to me...
Other than all that excitement, not a great deal to say. Lectures are going, project is going, work is piling, etc etc. One of these days I will find peace. Until then I will just have to live with my oxymoronic existence; my insanity is the only thing that keeps me sane. Well, that and the Columbian blend.
Tsch!

Dear Michael,I'm saying all the things that I know you'll like,
Makin' good conversation
I gotta handle you just right,
You know what I mean
I took you to an intimate restaurant,
Then to a suggestive movie
There's nothin' left to talk about,
Unless it's horizontally
Let's get physical, physical,
I wanna get physical, let's get into physical
Let me hear your body talk,
Your body talk, let me hear your body talk
I've been patient, I've been good,
Tried to keep my hands on the table
It's gettin' hard this holdin' back,
You know what I mean
I'm sure you'll understand my point of view,
We know each other mentally
You gotta know that you're bringin' out
The animal in me
Let's get animal, animal,
I wanna get animal, let's get into animal
Let me hear your body talk,
Your body talk, let me hear your body talk

Hey Michael,So, I am finally back in L.A. from a whirlwind trip to New York City where I can honestly say I have never had a better, more enjoyable time promoting a movie. This is so different for me. For one, this is not 100% my movie (which I LOVE!)... I share this movie with the amazing actors, tireless producers, and one truly talented director. The whole week in New York led up to a weekend that was WAY beyond any of our comprehension. Our little movie only showed in 20 theatres across the country but grossed more than anyone ever expected!! Needless to say, we celebrated BIG time yesterday and now look forward to growing into almost 40 markets in the next couple of weeks. As I have said in all interviews, this is such an important movie for us to be a part of because it's essentially for YOU. I really believe that in my heart and hope that everyone gets the opportunity to see it as it challenges and questions issues that are relevant and thought-provoking. I know that is something that we ALL need from a film once in a while. So many film makers cater to a certain audience and believe that "we" need to be "dumbed-down" to and want themes and ideas delivered on a silver platter, rarely leaving some questioning on behalf of the audience. Anyway, needless to say, it has been an incredible week and I have had an amazing time being part of this. Thanks to all of you who helped launch this "little train that could" by going to check it out. I am so looking forward to hearing your thoughts about it.
"Romance and Cigarettes" has wrapped and I, unfortunately, am back home missing the heck out of NYC. It was amazing to have lived alone for the first time and to have the city all to myself. I walked away from the movie in such awe of the talent I got to work with. Along with that, I made some incredible friends on and off set. John Turturro is DEFINITELY someone I would work with at the drop of a hat---love him. I feel like he and the whole experience brought out the best in me. Can't wait to see how the movie turns out---I think it should be coming out sometime early next year.
I've been taking meetings with some producers to begin recording for my first Sire/Warner Bros. album. I am beyond elated to get into the studio. Blank slate. No baggage. No history with anyone. PERFECT! I have been writing quite a bit lately and hope to hook up and collaborate with some great songwriters. If all goes according to my plan, I'm anticipating the record to be completed by this Fall and ready to be released early next year.
For now, I'm also spending time in L.A. meeting with several film projects - all very different from one another but also some really challenging roles. I think all of the press and reviews on "Saved!" have helped some people see a side of me that I haven't gotten to show in my films. It's made me feel really good about where I am going next.
That's it for now. Looking forward to hearing your feedback on the new site. Again, it is a work in progress but already I feel like it is going to rock! Hope you guys are all well and beginning to enjoy a great summer.
xoxo,
MM
